I have been driving past Opa's for many years now and never seemed to have the time. So, we stopped, and everything about Opa's is amazing. The people were happy, the food was amazing, and the story behind this little slice of German heaven is inspiring.

The experience was authentic and quaint, the German vibe was there, but mixed reviews on the food. Jägerschnitzel was exceedingly well prepared, had a nice crisp crunchy exterior and the meat was cooked to perfection. No gristle to speak of and the flavors were all there in the meat and the mushroom gravy. I'd give this a 9.5 out of 10. Sauerkraut, which is a staple for German food. First couple bites, I wasn't quite sure. By the third or fourth bite, it did not have the right taste and quite frankly, the taste was off and I would have to try it again to see if it was just an off night, because it was pretty bad. Probably a 3 out of 10, which indicates it's actually bad tasting. 1 would be spoiled or had to spit it out. Did not finish. Red cabbage, did not have any of the sweetness or the complex flavors that it should have. Was largely bland and I only had a few bites to make sure. My friend agreed that it was not tasty. I'd give this a 5 out of 10. Did not finish. The bread, was told it's from HEB. Pumpernickel was pretty good, didn't try the white bread. Since they didn't make it, I'm not going to rate it. The cucumber salad, was very night. Light with some nice flavors. Would give this a 8.5. our waitress originally gave us a sample and my friend had a small bowl of it. 4 tables inside, several outside. They don't take reservations, which is unusual for a German restaurant, but was no bother. Everyone was really nice. Ambiance, lacked music. In that small of a space, maybe that's the right choice. I won't judge for that. It was decidedly small. It did give me the feel of being in a little German restaurant in a small town. Maybe an 8. Overall, I would still return. I would be hesitant to order either the sauerkraut or red cabbage. I did try my friends Spätzle which was also very good, only had a couple bites. I don't regularly order that though. Probably give the Spätzle an 8.5 to 9. I wish I could give an overall a higher rating, but looking at a 6.5 out of 10.

Was in the mood for German food and this place came highly recommended so decided to try it out and glad I did! The food is really good! The restaurant is a little on the small side inside but they also have outside seating. There was only one server working so she was really busy but efficient. Highly recommended

If you’re in the mood for authentic, hearty cuisine in a rustic and cozy atmosphere, this is the place to be. From the moment you walk in, you feel comfortable — lots of wood, charming details, and that special “I’d love to stay here” feeling. The schnitzels are outstanding: golden and crispy on the outside, juicy and perfectly seasoned on the inside. You can immediately tell that the food is prepared with skill and care. The sauerkraut is not just a side dish, but a real highlight — wonderfully seasoned, aromatic, and just the right texture. What truly makes the experience special, though, is the service. Incredibly warm, attentive, and never intrusive. You feel genuinely welcome, almost like you’re visiting good friends. In short: fantastic food, a great atmosphere, and a team that clearly loves what they do. Highly recommended — I will definitely be back.

I was driving home from Stillhouse Hollow when I popped into this absolute gem of a restaurant. Only about 4 tables big, covered in old school German themed art, and pumping that polka. Thought it would just be all theme and okay food, but the Gypsy Schnitzel is the best Schnitzel I've ever had. Perfect texture, breading and sauce. If you are ever near here GO!

This German restaurant is very small, but very quaint with limited inside seating. We got there just as it opened, first people there. LOL, the inside and porch seating filled shortly after we arrived... I considered this as a testimate to good meals coming. There's plenty of seating outside, which looked well maintained, to include limited seating on the porch. The staff was fabulous, caring, and professional. Food came in good time, and it was okay; much, much better than other local (Lampasas, Kempner, other Harker Heights) German restaurants. But, it is not as flavorful as the authentic German food you get from your local Gaste Haus' and even over there, the gravy is very flavorful, does Not Taste of packaged, add water gravies. The schnitzel (pork) meat and crust were to perfection, but a but more spice could be helpful, although juicy, cooked to perfection they were bland. I tasted the I tasted the Jaegersnitzel's Pilzsoße (mushroom gravy). It was not flavorful and needed much more Pilze (mushrooms) in the Soße (gravy). The kartoffelsalat (potato salad) was plain, it and the speck (bacon) could be more flavorful. There is a lack of (German) essig (vinegar), (German) öl (oil), and again, there's no flavor to the speck (bacon). The Rotkohl (Red Cabbage) was plain, it could be more flavorful, and it was not tart/sweet. There's a lack of (German) essig (vinegar) and apples. The Gerkensalat (Cucumber Salad); the cream cheese, and dill were perfect blends. But there seemed a lack of (German) essig (vinegar). I wish that the ingredients match Germany's exceptional ingredients. Actually, authentic German products can now be ordered internationally... it's how I obtain my products; German & Italian. But this is America. You get what you get. Authentic products, although tastier, are more expensive. We will be going back.
